Month 1: Introduction to Sewing Techniques
Week 1-2: Sewing Tools and Equipment
- Overview of Essential Sewing Tools and Their Uses
- Introduction to Different Types of Sewing Machines
- Setting Up a Sewing Workspace and Safety Measures
Week 3-4-5: Basic Sewing Techniques
- Practice Sewing Straight Seams and Curves
- Understanding Stitch Length, Width, and Tension
- Introduction to Backstitching, Pivot, and Lockstitch
Month 2: Creating Simple Garments
Week 6-7: Reading and Altering Patterns
- Understanding Sewing Patterns and Their Components
- Taking Accurate Body Measurements
- Making Basic Pattern Adjustments
Week 8-9-10 : Constructing Garments
- Sewing a Simple Skirt or Pants
- Attaching Waistbands and Waistlines
- Sewing Seams, Darts, and Pleats
Month 3: Intermediate Techniques and Advanced Garments
Week 11-12: Intermediate Sewing Skills
- Sewing Zippers (Invisible, Exposed, or Lapped)
- Adding Buttons, Snaps, and Hooks
- Exploring Different Types of Seams and Finishes
Week 13-14-15: Creating Complex Garments
- Sewing a Simple Blouse or Top
- Adding Collars, Sleeves, and Cuffs
- Introduction to Linings and Interfacings
Final Week: Final Project and Review
- Students select a more advanced garment project (e.g., dress, jacket, tailored pants).
